Steve Roe, Iowa's Associate Director of Sports Information, discusses Bruce Pearl to Iowa
By Nick Taylor
Bruce Pearl is headed to Providence, Rhode Island for a matchup against San Diego State this week. Pearl has performed one his best coaching performances this season overcoming many distractions to his roster. Iowa media reports have mentioned Pearl as a strong candidate to replace Tom Lickliter, who was fired last night. Pearl conducted his Tennessee radio call-in-show before the news surfaced publicly about the Lickliter dismissal. Pearl, an Iowa assistant coach from 1986-1992, made suggestions last night that Tennessee needs to go to Providence to be a prominent basketball program. Steve Roe, Associate Director of Sports Information for Iowa, told The Sports Times Network this morning that "We are looking for the best coach and the best fit, other than that I can't comment on it." These were answers when asked about if Bruce Pearl fits the criteria of what Iowa is looking for and if Iowa was going to be able to pay him to leave Tennessee. Roe added, "Bruce's name comes up from his coaching days under Tom Davis. Other than that I am not going to comment on it at this time."
